One of the great tragedies of our existence is the way in which man's baser instincts run roughshod over his transcendent ideals. Greed, aggression, and cruelty can undo, in moments, the painstaking efforts of millenia. Are we so fundamentally flawed that we are destined to ignoble oblivion?
